On Saturday 19th April I went to see two local bands, Falling Storm and Paradime.
I'm always excited to see some local talent, I'm always up for supporting unsigned musicians and to be able to do that so close to home is great. I do sometimes feel Lincolnshire is lacking much of a music scene.
Falling Storm
Are a four piece, female fronted rock band from Lincoln.
Their set which was a mix of their own songs and covers. I'll be honest and say I didn't know a lot of the covers but through out the whole thing I was tapping my foot and clapping along. Through the first few covers the vocals wobbled a bit from nervous no doubt but as they got to their own songs there was more confidence through out the whole band. Even though not knowing the songs myself it didn't stop me from clapping my hands and enjoying them, and listening to them again in future. One of the only covers I did know was Linkin Park's What I've Done, it being one of my favourite Linkin Park songs I was hoping Falling Storm would be it justice. They did, having shaken the nervous the band finishes off with a big cheer from the crowd. A good band with define promise something I will say is in such a small venue like a inn or pub a mic on the drums is not needed as it can compete with the other instruments, especially the vocals. The last thing is they were a very still band, standing still to play their instruments and sing. Now I know the 'stage' wasn't big but as a band you need to talk to your audience.

Paradime.
Are a five piece female fronted rock band, also from Lincoln. I'd say this band had a more confident than the previous. All covers this time, and more I knew this time, including The Middle - Jimmy Eat World, Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus, Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson, Left Outside Alone - Anastacia and Numb - Linkin Park. With more covers than I knew I enjoyed the set more as I was able to sing along but I think the band themselves were better, a little more experienced maybe. The vocals showed no signs of nervous and neither did the other members. I thought Paradime did really well, I'd be happy to see them again and with some of their own songs too. Their only issue really was the same as Falling Storm in not interacting with the crowd very much.

Taking Hayley Farewell Tour (London date)
It really does sadden me to say that Taking Hayley's Farewell tour has been and gone, and that they are no longer a band. I was lucky enough to get tickets to see them in London on 19th for one last goodbye.
Set No Sail were first the bill for the night. Being the first band on for the night is never that easy, they aren't that many people and were all their for the headliners but this didn't stop Set No Sail from putting on what I think was the first support act of the night. Their songs was fast and catchy, the vocals loud and clear they made you pay attention to them and I was not disappointed. After the gig it's self they were giving away free copies of their EP Take It Easy and sitting at home listening to them again they're diffidently a band worth checking out.

Twisters I hadn't heard of before so not knowing what to expect I was ready for anything I got a lively pop_rock band. They had a great energy about them and got the now bigger crowd up and moving about with their own light hearted songs and fantastic cover of Taio Cruz's Dynamite. They're a band I'd happily listen to again and be happy to see again.

White Clouds And Gunfire third on the bill and first female fronted band of the night. They put on a great show, despite singer Evey having a bad throat. They weren't short of energy jumping all over the place and really owning the stage, the crowd was loving it those who knew the word singing along and those who didn't clapping along like it didn't matter. The songs were full on powerful rock songs, and that really showed in their performance.

Remember December now I have to say for the main supports I think these guys fell a little short... A pop-punk band with a twist but they didn't make the impact I was expecting, and I doubt I was the only one who thought this, the whole was very quiet compared to how'd they'd been earlier. They weren't bad in the fact they had some good songs they just didn't have the energy and ownership on the stage, they weren't demanding my attention and I had trouble giving it.

The lights came down and Taking Hayley hit the stage for one last party in London, and they delivered!
Going straight into their third single Better Luck Next Time the whole crowd went mad, through out Butterflies, Tonight (We Come Alive) and Here I Stand everyone was just having the time of their lives dancing, singing and clapping along. Alistair having abandoned his guitar for the night in favour of focusing on his vocals jumped around the stage like a 5 year old on a sugar rush! Andy of The Oceans Eyes fame played guitar in Alistair's place.Up All Night the band's second single had everyone on their feet, we really saw Levi Keeling (Guitar and backing vocals) come into his own, he had everyone clapping along within seconds. For the fans who'd been there since the beginning they played Don't Let Go the bands very first song that earned a few tears from the fans. Holding On a slightly heavier song got everyone going and even the start of a mosh pit that carried on into the next song, a cover of Earthquake. The rock version of Earthquake set the place on fire, Tom Paton (Bass) even went wondering through the crowd and was standing the bar at the other end of the room by the end of the song! From Now Until Forever started the tears, an emotional song about being friends and what they achieved as a band. Before Crying Eyes Ali started off by giving a little speech, saying all his thank yous and how much it meant to him that we'd all come out to say goodbye to the band. Crying Eyes played with just Ali, Andy and Jay (Drums) on stage the whole crowd was tearing up at the emotional song, so much so that by the end Ali was crying himself. After rejoining the stage Levi, Tom and Jay gave their speeches each thanking their friends, family and fans for helping their dreams come true. To finish the night they played their first single Circles, everyone went mad and was singing along to the last song and then with one last crash of Jay's drums it was over.
RIP Taking Hayley, you shall be sorely missed.

Stakeout Christmas Show (Birmingham date)
This week I was lucky enough to be at the Birmingham date of Stakeout's Christmas shows!
First on the bill was Fight The Dice.
It's always hard being the opening the band as many people don't know who you are. I was one of them, despite not knowing the words to the songs they had a good energy about them. They did a decent cover of Muse's Super Massive Black Hole my only trouble was with difficultly hearing the vocals. I could hear the guitarist backing vocals better than the lead singers! They weren't a bad opening band and I'd be happy to listen to more of them in the future.

Second band of the night was The Last Carnival.
I last saw this band support Taking Hayley back in July on their Made Tour. So this time I knew what to expect. The Last Carnival have almost an over confident feel about them when they're on stage, a kind of 'look at us we know what we're doing.' I didn't enjoy their set, the whole thing had no impact on me. Even know I couldn't tell you anything about the songs they sung as I couldn't really hear them.
I've seen this band twice now to be honest once was enough.

The third and final support of the night were Keep The Change!
A band I've reviewed in the past and was looking forward to seeing. Their set was energetic and fun, I sang along to the songs I knew but even when I didn't know them I had fun clapping along and jumping around. They did a good cover of Roar originally by Katy Perry which had the whole crowd singing. Keep The Change were by far the best support of the night, they really got the crowd going and made an impact.

The headlining band of the night, Stakeout!
I saw these guys back in August and loved every minute so you could say I was excited to see them again.
They started off the night with I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, a great way to to start a Christmas gig! There wasn't a person I could see that wasn't singing along and enjoying themselves. Next they go into some of their own songs such a Heartbreak Overdue, Sing It Loud and Chelsea, it's always fantastic to be in the middle of a crowd where everyone just going mad and having fun and that's what it's like at Stakeout. They can really pull everyone together. Get Up And Go is a song they'd not played in over a year and it was great to hear them play, for the people who hadn't heard it before and the people who had. It actually has one of my favourite lyrics in 'When did we become everything we swore we'd never be?' which was sung by their resident guitarist Arthur. The Outcome Of Saying Goodbye, is Stakeout's only slow song. It's a very emotional song that's very powerful. The whole crowd was singing and holding up their phones like lighters, it was quite beautiful. With only Matt on stage you can really hear his voice and he does have such a good voice, he sounds better live than recorded. Which is something you can't say for a lot of people. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town was another great Christmas classic, it also happens to be my favourite Christmas song. I loved hearing it live. Earthquake is Stakeout's new song, the video only premièring earlier this week was next. The recorded version of the song already a lot of energy but live it was a another level. The band was jumping around like mad, so was the crowd, it was by far my favourite moment of the night. They finished the night with Live It Up, Young and Fearless before the last Christmas song of the night Merry Christmas Everyone.
I had an amazing time watching Stakeout, and hanging out with my friends. Those boys know how to put on a great show and I'll diffidently being seeing them again!

Stakeout: Young and Fearless tour (Birmingham date) Review
Recently I had the lovely pleasure of seeing Stakeout on their headlining Young and Fearless tour in Birmingham!
The night started with local supports were 4 piece pop-rock band The Callout. Not knowing them before hand I didn't know the words to their songs but they pulled off a really good performance as I was clapping along and enjoying myself. Their set wasn't long and it was all their own songs so the crowd didn't really sing along but The Callout started off a great night in style and I'll be checking them out in the future!

Next on the bill were Birmingham 5 piece alt-rockers Speaking in Shadows. I saw SIS back in February when they supported Taking Hayley and I wasn't that impressed with their performance but they've defiantly proved me wrong! They had a great stage presence that got the whole crowed moving, Adam's vocals sounded really good and clear compared to when I last saw them. In one of the songs the crowd was even given our own line to sing, which is always great. They finished their set with their single Sweet Gemini which is one of the only one of their songs I knew so I was really singing, clapping and having fun.
I really great set and I would happily see them for a third time.

Third were new 4 piece country/rock band Paighton, only releasing their first EP about a month ago this is the first time many people have heard them live. The members of Paighton are made up of the old members of That Sunday Feeling, who'd seen live twice and was never that impressed with their live performance but coming back as Paighton has given them a new life. They did mostly covers and only two of their own songs, one of them being brand new. Some of the covers I didn't know but had a great time singing along to the ones that I did including The Summer Of 69, they finished their set with the song Somebody which I knew very well and sung very loudly along to. A very good first impression from Paighton and I would defiantly go see them again.

Finally headliners 3 piece pop-rock band Stakeout. Due to Matt (Lead vocals and guitar) being ill their set was cut a little shorter and despite all that they were amazing! For the first time they played a mix of both their EP's mixing the old songs with new songs and some covers thrown in too. Going from their intro into Chelsea, Never End, Hero, Sing It Loud then into a cover of Demi Lovato's Heart Attack. Which sounded amazing, hearing it performed by a proper band made that crash on the chorus sound fantastic! They slowed in down for The Outcome Of Saying Goodbye which has a lot of personal meaning to the band and it showed as they played it, I was singing my heart out or I would have been crying my eyes out. They also played their new single Heartbreak Overdue which is probably my favourite song by them so I had a brilliant time jumping up and down to it. They closed the night with a cover of Sex On Fire in which all the bands came on stage for a bit of a stage invasion which resulted in a blow up palm tree being in the crowd and Lee (Bass and backing vocals) getting us covered in water. Despite Matt being ill and the chance of the gig not going ahead everything went amazingly, they couldn't have done a better job!
I will defiantly be going to see them again but a bit closer next time hey?

Taking Hayley live review
Hey guys!
This week I was very lucky to get tickets to see Taking Hayley playing in Nottingham on their Made tour!
Due to my failure at map reading we arrived late and I don't actually know the name of the opening act... I am sorry about that. What I heard of the band was good and I had fun dancing to them.
The Kaos were next!
A good bit of punk rock to kick off my night. Clapping, cheering, a bit of dancing. The band defiantly had some energy and it was great to see a band more at home jumping around the stage. Sometimes live vocals can get a bit lost The Kaos didn't have this problem and I could hear them really well even if I didn't know the words! They finished their set with a great cover of Teenager Dirtbag that had the whole crowd singing along. I'll defiantly be checking out The Kaos more in the future.

My friend introduced me to this band so I knew what to expect this time. Everyone was singing along and having fun, they had great energy on stage as well as in their songs. The whole crowd was really enjoying their pop rock songs as everyone was either singing/clapping or dancing along.
In Hindsight put on a really great performance and I'll definitely be listening to them more in the future!

The forth and final support act were The Last Carnival.
I'd not listened to the band before hand so I had no idea what to expect. With two guitars, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals there was a lot going on, maybe a bit too much. The guitars were amazing and their guitarist definitely had some talent, in fact the whole band was talented and the only bad thing I have to say is I couldn't hear the vocals at all... This might have been to do with how close to the speakers I was standing but even so I should be able to hear something of what was being sung and I couldn't. Having talked to the guys after the show they're a really nice, hard working band so you should check them out.

This being the third time I'd seen Taking Hayley I knew exactly what to expect from the band, and they did not disappoint. Starting off with their second single Up All Night got the whole crowd jumping and singing straight away. That feeling when you're in a crowd and everyone is having an amazing time singing as loud as they can is something you get at Taking Hayley, everyone is enjoying themselves. They played a few of their faster songs first Up All Night, Tonight and Here I Stand before slowing into Crying Eyes. This song was originally recorded as a piano track but for the sake of tour was performed with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. It's an beautiful song to start with but live Alistair really does sing it at a new level that left me with tears in my eyes. They did a great cover of Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars which is one of my favourite covers they've done. One of the special moments for me was when they played From Now Until Forever which is a special song for my and best friend, hearing it live meant a lot to me and they played it so, so well.
Taking Hayley really know how to put on a show, you would not be disappointed going to see them.

The forth and final support act were The Last Carnival.
I'd not listened to the band before hand so I had no idea what to expect. With two guitars, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals there was a lot going on, maybe a bit too much. The guitars were amazing and their guitarist definitely had some talent, in fact the whole band was talented and the only bad thing I have to say is I couldn't hear the vocals at all... This might have been to do with how close to the speakers I was standing but even so I should be able to hear something of what was being sung and I couldn't. Having talked to the guys after the show they're a really nice, hard working band so you should check them out.

The headlining act Taking Hayley.
This being the third time I'd seen Taking Hayley I knew exactly what to expect from the band, and they did not disappoint. Starting off with their second single Up All Night got the whole crowd jumping and singing straight away. That feeling when you're in a crowd and everyone is having an amazing time singing as loud as they can is something you get at Taking Hayley, everyone is enjoying themselves. They played a few of their faster songs first Up All Night, Tonight and Here I Stand before slowing into Crying Eyes. This song was originally recorded as a piano track but for the sake of tour was performed with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. It's an beautiful song to start with but live Alistair really does sing it at a new level that left me with tears in my eyes. They did a great cover of Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars which is one of my favourite covers they've done. One of the special moments for me was when they played From Now Until Forever which is a special song for my and best friend, hearing it live meant a lot to me and they played it so, so well.
Taking Hayley really know how to put on a show, you would not be disappointed going to see them.

And finally the headlining act, Taking Hayley! Thee 4 piece pop - rockers from Birmingham put on an amazing show.
Even as they were setting up there was a buzz and excitement in the air.
The into plays, the boys come on stage, the lights go down and BANG the first guitar riff of Tonight starts, Levi (Guitar and backing vocals) and Tom (Bass and backing vocals) started singing and the crowd goes mad! The bands high quality, poppy tunes with an rocky edge get everyone on there feet, jumping, singing and clapping their hands. Second song in Up All Night, Taking Hayley's second single get's everyone going. Have you ever been in the middle of a crowd singing your heart out, jumping and not having a care in the world because you're on top of the world? Yeah, that's what standing in that crowd felt like. Butterflies from the bands debut album 'Tricks and Games' means alot to Alistair (Lead guitar and vocals) as he put his heart in as he sung it. Holding On was the song I was most excited to see live and I was not disappointed! Alistair puts down his guitar and just sings, the intro already had us jumping and when Ali started singing, I sang my heart out with him, so much that my voice nearly gave up just over half way through! From Now Until Forever another one of 'Tricks and Games' and a song they've not played on tour before and another one I was looking forward to hearing, it's a song that means a lot to the band as it's about them and there journey and it's a really lovely song that really comes alive when live. Here I Stand is more energetic that From Now Until Forever so get's the crowd jumping like mad again, and I found my voice again so I was singing along too. Somebody That I Used To Know (Cover) I know what this song is like when you rock it up as I love the Mayday Parade's cover but Taking Hayley gave it there own twist making it a cover Mayday Parade would be jealous of. Better Luck Next Time this is the #BLNT tour so I knew this song was coming. The catchy guitar riffs and upbeat drums that make it impossible to keep your feet on the ground. Circles the last song in what was an amazing night. Jay (Drums) keeps up a fast beat were you just have to clap along (If you can keep time... I can't!) it's a great feeling looking at the crowd around you all clapping along in time.
An amazing night that I won't be forgetting.

Third in the line up and the last support this is Speaking In Shadows! 5 piece Alternative - rockers from Coventry put on another great performance. There rock style brought real power to the stage, and I had to fight the urge to do air guitar! Good guitar riffs, and fast drums that I really enjoyed, the only problem I had with the whole performance were with the vocals. As I hard a time understanding what was being sung, even with no guitars or drums playing I still had trouble! One of the nice things about it was the amount of free things they throw out into the crowd, wristbands, cds and even an ester egg!
I also got the chance to speak to the guys after the show and they were all very nice.
A good band that I'd be more than happy to see again.

Fluorescent Hearts were next in the line, 4 piece the pop - rockers from Glasgow (And I thought I'd come far for the gig!)
Again it was another high energy performance that had the crowd jumping. The guitar riffs alone made me want to dance and clap my hands, and the whole crowd were loving it! I wasn't loving it as much as without knowing any of their songs before hand I didn't know any lyrics and I had a little trouble hearing what was being sung. One of my favourite things about the performance was a friend of mine asked the band before hand if they'd play her favourite song and they did! They did do a cover of a 90s song which I didn't know but what ever it was I liked it as they filled it full of energy.

Sorry I've been so quite! But I have gig review for you now. I was lucky enough to get tickets to see Taking Hayley in London.
The opening act were She Formed The Skies. The 4 piece, pop - rockers from Bedfordshire put on a great performance. From the moment they come on stage there was energy and fun, their own songs are upbeat, energy filled and before I knew it I was dancing along! Before they broke into a cover of Party In The USA which had the crowd jumping and singing along, the band even went in to a freestyle 60s style beat which got still got the crowd clapping along. Mid way through one of their songs they broke into a cover of Busted's Year 300, the crowd went mad singing, jumping and just enjoying the song. Even though I didn't know the words to their songs and wasn't singing along with their own tracks it was obvious these guys are good! They were my favourites out of the 3 supports as they worked hard and it showed.

And the headlining act Taking Hayley :D 4 piece pop/rock band from Birmingham.
Wow these's guys are just fantastic live; fun, lively, full of energy. The songs are amazing record but live I can't think of a word!! They're a real pop/rock band full of real bass, guitar, drums and vocals. The set starts off with the intro from the album The Big Blind.
Better Luck Next Time. A fun lively song with great vocals, the crowd go mad as good as the first cords of the song are played as we all know what's coming. Al gets the whole crowd singing even giving us a whole line to ourselves.
Up All Night. If people weren't joining in before they sure are now! With up all night's catchy vocals and awesome guitar riffs its impossible not to jump around and sing.
Tonight. A sweet song about being alone and wishing someone was at your side. This is the first time you get to hear guitarist Levi's backing vocals and he has a voice full of passion.
Butterflies is a song all about falling in love and full of emotion. Alistair kept eye contact with the crowd through out (after talking to Al he said through out singing Butterflies he was thinking of his girlfriend)
Here I Stand. A change from the emotion of Butterflies with a song full of energy that had everyone going a bit crazy.
Crying Eyes. There was not a dry eye in the house after this song, this is an old song that the band have remastered for the album turning it from a real rock song to a piano ballad. With only Alistair and his keyboard on stage his vocals are totally on their own, to end the song the rest of the band join Alistair on stage for a full on rock ending to a beautiful song.
Earthquake (Labrinth cover) Alistair loses his guitar for this song so he jumps around like a loon!! This was originally a electronic song full of commuters but not Taking Hayleys cover which replaces the electronic sound with guitars, bass and drums we even get Alistair rapping!
Circles. The bast first single and one were the drums really come in to there own. A great high energy song to end the night with, everyone was singing (even the people stood at the back) Circles is such an infections song you can't help jumping and singing.
I also had the chance to meet the guys and they're just lovely. I will defiantly be seeing this band again (I'd go now if I could) and you should too, they're just as amazing and more that I said. Next one is The Ocean's Eyes are a 5 piece alt/pop punk/rock band from London. These were my favourite support band, fun, lively and full of energy. The crowd loved them and I thought they were pretty good too, Luke the lead singer really went all out jumping off stage and dancing with the crowd and dancing, singing and messing about with Jay (drummer for Taking Hayley) they even ended up on the floor at one point (Luke was still singing) Thought this band were good and fun, I'd defiantly like to see them again, anyone who loves a lively band pop-punk band should see these guys because you'd be stupid not too.

Bentley Park are a 5 piece heavy rock/punk/pop band formed in North Yorkshire that are now in Manchester :) These guys were pretty good got the crowd going and me singing to there cover of Call Me Maybe. I enjoyed them they did really well; bass, drums, guitar and vocals all sounding pretty good. They were my sisters favourite and I'm not surprised they did an awesome job. I would see this band again and I hope to see there too.

Deny The Lie are up next :) Are a 5 piece rock/punk/post-hardcore band from Nottingham. These's guys were alright, if someone said punk this is what kind of thing I would think of. Guitar, bass and drums were not bad had my foot tapping and fingers drumming. The vocals were okay a little hard to hear most of the time but the crowd seem to enjoy these guys more but I wasn't quite sold. I might see this band again but I'm not sure, if you're a punk person you should give them a listen.

Next were Grey Goes Down :) 4 piece post-grunge alt-punk from Nottingham. This band is hard to review because I've never really heard this kind of music before. I didn't think it was that great and nor did the rest of the crowd. Its probably not a kind a style of music I'll get into that much. Drums, guitar and bass were all quite clear though I wasn't tapping my foot to it or anything and I do that to most songs; the vocals weren't clear or that great. They're not a band I would see again but if you're into that kind of music check them out and see what you think.

Right a few gig reviews to do so lets get down to it :) First the opening act Nothing Personal, a 4 piece pop-punk band from Birmingham. I knew this band before seeing them and knew I few words to there songs.
Okay I did miss the first few songs on the setlist as I was hanging out with Taking Hayley but what I heard of NP was really good. There punk side really comes out when they play live, they have some heavier songs like 42 and some more pop things like there awesome cover of Call Me Maybe. Crowd enjoyed them but didn't go 'crazy' Altogether this band is pretty dam awesome live and a band not to be missed, I'll be going to see them on tour again :)

Gig reviews!!! 5 to be exact. First up Neon Sarcastic the opening act. They did a mix of three of the own songs with two covers. I really enjoyed them, I was singing an jumping about, the rest of the crowd weren't so enthusiastic. Maybe it was because Neon Sarcastic were announced only three days before and they didn't really know them. I really enjoyed them, clean, clever vocals; energetic guitar; great sounding drums. I great live band and one I suggest you should go and see :)
